Nathan joins with pianist, Csinszka Rédai and Trumpeter, David Michaux, to present the Victoria premier of Eric Ewazen's evocative song cycle ...to cast a shadow again. This rarely-performed work traces the contours of a tumultuous relationship, whilst the trumpet plays the role of a sort of Greek chorus. Its constant, reflective commentary weaves both grandly and delicately together with the voice to stunning effect, while adding additional poignancy to the text.

Also featured on the program are Vier ernste Gesänge (four serious songs), op. 121 by Johannes Brahms. This epic cycle takes four Biblical texts - two from Ecclesiastes, and one each from Sirach and 1 Corinthians - and brings the listener on a journey through dour contemplation of the nature of mortality to the hopeful promise of a redeeming Love.

The program will also include:

Holst Vedic Hymns 1-3 (op. 24)

Britten's arrangement of Purcell's Lord, what is man?

A selection of favourite songs by Finzi and Vaughan Williams
