From Allegri’s haunting and mysterious Miserere, written for service at the Sistine Chapel, to David Lang’s Pulitzer-Prize winning The Little Match Girl Passion, based on J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion interspersed with the narrative from Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Match Girl, to Sven-David Sandström’s Hear My Prayer, a modern reinterpretation of the music of Henry Purcell.
